Like most of our previous bridges in the centre of Amsterdam there has been a bridge here at the location of Bridge 62 for centuries. Balthasar Florisz. van Berckenrode already drew a bridge here on his map of 1625. It is then located over the Lely Graft in the Prince Graft. It shares the history with #bridge61, for some renewal and renovation. This is reflected in the external resemblance of the bridge, although #bridge62 has one passage and bridge 61 has three, the Prinsengracht is simply much wider than the Leliegracht. At the end of the 19th century, a reduction also led to a discussion, the skippers protested against it but the municipal council nevertheless voted in favour of a reduction in height in order to facilitate land traffic.
